Known as a portraitist to celebrities, Antoine Le Grand happily changes himself into a theatre director, pushing his subjects to the edge of role playing, creating for them atmospheres of gangster films, surprising costumes, poses so extreme as to be parodic or ecstatic. These non-commissioned works are more introspective, and reveal a sensibility that fluctuates between spirituality and sensuality. These alternating currents can be felt in all of Le Grand's work, whether the mysterious prints of so-called ghosts, or the surrealistic dance scenes of the French choreographer Philippe Decouflé.
