Born in Soleure, Switzerland, Thomas Kneubühler has spent much of his time working in Canada. Explorer of the modern world, its salient and radiant facets, he leaves no stone unturned in his series of urban landscapes, portraits and street scenes. In his series “absence”, he captures faces absorbed by their computer screens. The series “private property” analyses the mark left through keeping law and order on a society constantly under surveillance. With his later series “Office 2000”, he examines the dehumanising aspects of the world dominated by towers and brightly neon-lit offices. For his most recent series Kneubühler has left the city behind in favour of a world defined by immense scale and silence; the mountains assailed at night by the strange glow of modern times.
