Born in China, Jiuwen deftly combines a career spanning areas of advertising, editorial and artistic work. His photographs exhibit the perpetual search to reconcile photography and painting through a personal predilection to mix and match genres. In the manner of masters from bygone eras, Jiuwen sketches out the composition before applying silver salt photography on water-based paper, cardboard or wood. Heavily influenced by his childhood memories from the Maoist years, he has created a series of photographic canvases in which his one and only son is embedded and merged into the icons and images amassed from the shelves of his memory. His work has gained continued recognition and was awarded the bronze medal in the national Chinese exhibition in 2009.
