“I want to photograph the beauty of the world that surrounds me, whether powerful or melancholy in its nature. I don’t want to succumb to the most commonly trodden path of photographing tragedy or focusing on the sordid aspects of life. It’s a trap…” Philippe Abergel likes to surprise by conveying the simplicity of a particular set-up or a pose. Architecture, places, nudes: he explores a world stripped of its superficial veneer, dressed instead in all its beauty. An alchemist of memories, he gives his models the fluidity of a dream, the peace of a moment caught in time. From the beaches of Tahiti to the most beautiful of Parisian museums, he draws with pure serenity a personal universe, where light is married with the body and its surroundings.
