Born in a coal mining area, Bernard Quade has kept with him the memory of a landscape significantly transformed by industrial change. Following the closure of the mines, it was in this urban wasteland, at the age of 14 that Quade took his first photographs. Since then he has not stopped, travelling the world in search of hidden scenes that remind him of a childhood with its juxtaposed elements of terraced housing, the imposing structures of the mining and the disfigured landscapes. Discovering little by little other forms of landscape form Sicily to Scotland, Bernard Quade is driven by an insatiable artistic thirst for perfection; searching far and wide to find places where man has transformed nature or where nature has transformed man.
