A homeless refuge turned hotel, the Carlton Arms in New York is the ideal place to escape from reality. Each room is decorated by an artist. Nathalie Daoust stayed there for two years designing an alcove baptised as “Childhood dream”. Fascinated by all the rooms, Daoust has filled them with imagined silhouettes which she photographs as if in a dream; a journey from one side of the mirror to the other, towards a poetic and erotic universe, that resonates through the walls to the atmosphere within. This series is the first part of a conceptual piece of work dedicated to hotels.
