The Black Forest in south Germany streches out as far as the eye can see. The winter unleashs its icy cloak over the lanscape. Living in the nearby city of Freiburg, Michael Schlegel wanders amongst trees exploring the solitary, dream-like quality they purvey. Do they feel the coldness of the greys and the whites of their surroundings? Exposed to the harsh winds, they resist and stand out. Expressive in their stance, they are almost human in form. Repeatedly subjected to extreme changes in the climate, from Schlegal's frozen trees there emanates a feeling of fragility, but a sense that they have been victorious over a hundred years prevails.
