Lost in the plaster dust, in amongst the busts and silhouettes of sculptures that have been passed down to posterity, the creative vision of famous classical artists are reproduced over and over. While Goia spent many hours working alongside Chinese sculptors from the village of Dong Cheng, her photographs rarely comes across as simple reporting, as she captures the movement and postures she is also posing questions. These men that she watches are they creating or simply reproducing? The hand that produces dozens of reproductions of the David by Michelangelo is he an artist or just a manufacturer? What can be said then of these spinoffs, neither legal nor illegal as they are produced endlessly?
