A place of transit, neutral and undefined; this is the backdrop for Antoine Mercusot characters placed centre stage as though if in the theatre. Silhouettes passing by, on a journey to somewhere or making a visit to someone maybe; they are captured mid-motion, stopped abruptly, lost in a strange limbo, removed from scope of the everyday and as such set the mind free to wonder. Emerging to the surface from the depths of the unconscious, their fantasies, dreams, and fears are exposed. Two visions are thus superimposed: that of the people who scrutinise the world from the outside through the prism of their own personal perspectives and those of the spectator who is observing them. From this game of ‘who is watching who’ emerges a deeper existential questioning of the present-day cult which celebrates outward appearance and beauty.
