A metaphor for a sinking city…
The City of the Doges constantly at risk of floods and the Californian beach of the same name , represent for Chris Anthony a symbol of a world afflicted by the consequences of global warming. Under perpetual threat of sinking or being flooded, the two cities have seen their everyday lives transformed into a battle for survival. In his surrealistic interpretation of this reality, Anthony invents a world in the aftermath of the deluge , of a people emerging from the waters, aquatic survivors of an infinate history. The sea growing in height, touches the sky. In the raw, almost polar light, human beings are but a small mark on the landscape, ever-present yet fragile in submission to the forceful elements.
