Standing upright along the beach like a subservient army. Parasols as emblems, parasols as symbols. Good times, good feelings, idleness, nonchalance. As the night comes in, they begin to wander, like workers unemployed. Some lean in together in a crowd, as though colluding with one another, others billowing in the salty sea air. Those with the most pride stay at a distance, pensive and solitary dressed in their circus costumes.
